Colores – Colours. This is not just the band’s name, but the motto that stands over the versatile music of Eldis La Rosa. Apparent musical contrasts that come together to form a harmonious whole – that’s what the Cuban-born Viennese is all about. His project, Eldis La Rosa & Colores, is rooted in both black jazz and Cuban music and contains plenty of world music influences.
Colores – colours. In the music of Eldis La Rosa & Colores, they are also created by the line-up of this musically multilingual quartet. Together with the Taiwanese erhu player, Chia-Hua Chang, the Bulgarian bassist, Viktoria Kirilova, and the Carinthian vibraphonist, Igor Gross, Eldis La Rosa realised his sound ideas and crossed musical bounderies.
“tiptoe walking”, the album by Eldis La Rosa & Colores was released in 2021 by Preiser Records and is characterised by precisely this diversity and open-mindedness towards the new and unknown. Even beyond the music. Some of the pieces thematise coming and going. Farewells and new beginnings, optimistic departure, failure and danger. Eldis La Rosa & Colores bridge the gap between jazz and world music like few others, transcend stylistic and music genre boundaries and can teach us about tolerant and harmonious coexistence. Not only in music.
“They say that music is a universal language. When you listen to Eldis La Rosa and his band Colores, the world of sounds really does seem to be boundless.” (Dietmar Petschl, kulturMontag)
